At FollowerTracker.app, privacy isn't just a policy, it's foundational to how we built our product. We created this tool specifically because we were frustrated with apps that asked for passwords and collected unnecessary data. Here's everything you need to know about how we handle your information.
🔒 We Never Ask for Your Instagram Password
This is the most important thing to understand about our service. Unlike many competitor apps, we never ask for your Instagram login credentials. Our web tool works entirely with publicly available profile data. We can't access your DMs, your private stories, or any information that isn't already visible to anyone visiting your Instagram profile.
For our mobile app, when you choose to connect your own Instagram account for deeper analytics, we use Instagram's official OAuth 2.0 authentication. This means you log in directly through Instagram's servers. Your password goes to Instagram, not to us. We receive only a secure access token that allows us to display your follower information, and you can revoke this access anytime from your Instagram settings.
📊 What Data We Access
When you use our web tool to analyze a public Instagram profile, we access:
- Username and display name
- Profile picture (public)
- Bio information (public)
- Follower count
- Following count
- Post count
- Account verification status
This is the same information visible to anyone who visits that Instagram profile. We don't access private account data, direct messages, story viewers, or any other protected information.
💾 Data Storage and Retention
We believe in minimal data collection. Here's what we store and for how long:
Web tool searches: We may temporarily cache search results to improve performance. This cached data is automatically purged within 24 hours. We do not maintain permanent records of who searched for whom.
Mobile app data: If you use our mobile app with your connected Instagram account, we store your follower snapshots locally on your device. This allows you to track changes over time. This data stays on your phone and is not uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.
Account information: If you create an account with us (for premium features), we store your email address and subscription status. We don't store payment details directly, those are handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play.

We use cookies in a limited and responsible way:
Essential cookies: These are necessary for the website to function. They don't track you across other sites and contain no personal information.
Analytics: We use privacy-focused analytics to understand how people use our site, things like which pages are popular, what devices people use, and where our traffic comes from. This data is aggregated and anonymized. We don't use it to build profiles on individual users.

Instagram/Meta: We access publicly available Instagram data through standard web requests, the same way your browser would when visiting a profile. For the mobile app's authenticated features, we use Instagram's official API.
Payment processors: Premium subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your credit card information.
Hosting providers: Our website is hosted on secure, reputable infrastructure. These providers may process server logs that include IP addresses, but we don't use this data for tracking purposes.
🌍 International Data Transfers
We're based in the European Union and take GDPR compliance seriously. If you're accessing our service from outside the EU, your data may be transferred to and processed in the EU. We ensure that any such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.
